Gluten Free Air Fryer Apple Fritters

These air-fryer apple fritters are healthier than deep-frying and perfect for those of us who are gluten free! Perfect for breakfast with a hot cup of coffee!

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes per batch

Servings: 6-8 fritters, depending on size

Ingredients

For the Apple Fritters

  • 1½ cups gluten-free all-purpose baking flour
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla paste or extract
  • 3 large Honeycrisp or EverCrisp apples, peeled and chopped small
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • Coconut oil spray / avocado oil spray

For the Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F for 5 minutes.
  2. Prepare the apples. Peel and chop the apples into small pieces. In a medium bowl, gently toss the apples with the lemon juice and melted butter.
  3. Mix the dry ingredients. In a separate bowl, combine the gluten-free flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and pumpkin pie spice.
  4. Mix the wet ingredients. In a large bowl, gently beat the eggs and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Combine the batter. Add the dry ingredients to the egg mixture and stir until just combined. Fold in the prepared apples. If the batter is too thick, add a small amount of milk until it reaches a scoopable consistency.
  6. Prepare the fritters. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with coconut oil spray. Drop heaping spoonfuls of batter into the basket, leaving space between each fritter. Lightly spray the tops with coconut oil spray. Cook in batches as needed.
  7. Air fry. Cook at 400°F for 5 minutes. Carefully flip each fritter, lightly spray the other side, and cook for another 5 minutes, or until cooked through.
  8. Make the glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Add more almond milk a few drops at a time if needed to reach your desired consistency.
  9. Glaze and serve. Transfer the fritters to a wire cooling rack and allow them to cool slightly. Drizzle the glaze over the fritters and let it set before serving.
  10. Storage. Keep in an airtight container for up to 2 days (if they even last that long!)
